2007 Haggis Championship | | The 2007 Haggis Championship was decided in a competition sponsored by Grampian Oat Products held at the Scottish Meat Trade Fair on Sunday 13th May in Perth. The outcome was a win for the South West Scotland Champion, Alan Elliot of Dalbeattie Fine Foods but there is something Irish about that! |
| The Scottish Haggis champion of 2007
didn't know what haggis was until he took over an existing butcher's
business in Dalbeattie in Dumfries and Galloway on his 19th birthday in
2004.
Alan Elliot hails from Cookstown in
County Tyrone, Northern Ireland and had worked in a local butchers
business there from the age of 15. On taking on the shop in the town of
6,000 people that was once a mill town, a port and a granite quarrying
centre, Alan inherited a haggis recipe that he has since almost totally
re-invented.
The result it seems is a chieftan' aboon
them aw as Alan first picked up the South West Scotland title and went on
to rise above the other contenders to be acclaimed Scottish Champion 2007.
